Track and Field (Wheel Chair Users)
 
This program is suitable for children and young adults ages 12-21 who are manual wheelchair users and have an interest in track and field. The track and field program is appropriate for beginners and intermediate athletes. Participants must demonstrate safe and independent use of their manual wheelchair, an understanding of safety rules and the ability to follow multi step directions. A typical practice will consist of a stretching and warm up routine, short distance pushing, sprint and field work. Field events include soft discus and club throw. Participants will work toward a variety of goals including sportsmanship concepts, technical aspects of wheelchair racing, overall physical conditioning and safety awareness.

Class I Track (Power Wheel Chair Users)

This program is suitable for children and young adults ages 12-21 who are power wheelchair users and have an interest in track and field. The track and field program is appropriate for beginners and intermediate athletes. Participants must demonstrate safe and independent use of their power wheelchair, an understanding of safety rules and the ability to follow 2-3 step directions. A typical practice will consist of a stretching and warm up routine, short distance races, sprint and field work. Field events include soft discus and club throw. Participants will work toward a variety of goals including sportsmanship concepts, technical aspects of wheelchair racing, overall physical conditioning and safety awareness.
