Join the Recreation Department for our Learn to Skate Program 2014-2015. This program places an emphasis on developing proper fundamentals for skating and making skating fun.

Whether participants go on to figure skate, play hockey, or skate recreationally, each will learn the proper techniques for safety and success on the ice.

Our program director, Vicki Schepps, brings decades of experience to the ice. She takes pride in her ability to teach first time skaters to stay on their feet and begin to skate. She works closely with the rest of her staff to provide each child with a positive experience and an opportunity to improve his or her skills.

All classes take place on Tuesdays.  Session 1 is 6 weeks; Sessions 2 & 3 are 5 weeks each.
Learn to Skate is located at the Metropolis Skating Rink 2167 Washington St Canton

Session 1 begins on November 4, 2014.

Program is designed for children age 5-14 years with a limited number of openings for 3-4 year olds (Tots).  A parent or other adult is required to be on the ice with Tot Skaters.

Equipment/Safety Requirements and Recommendations
  • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Hockey Helmets with Face Guard are recommended.
  • GLOVES/MITTENS ARE REQUIRED.
  • SKATES ARE REQUIRED. New skates need to be sharpened and can be done at the Metro Rink Skate Shop for $5.00. We do not have skate rentals and do not allow double blade runners.
  • TOTS REQUIRES PARENT/ADULT with skates to be on the ice with the child.
  • Knee pads and elbow pads are at your discretion, but can be helpful to first-time skaters.
  • Although snow suits provide padding and warmth, they tend to restrict movement and make it difficult for skaters to execute skills properly. Please take this into consideration.

Rules, Procedures, Notes
  • A Parent or Guardian must be on the premises for the duration of the lesson.
  • Parents or Guardians are responsible for taking their child to the restroom if necessary. Instructors are required to stay on the ice with their class.
